When roadside help may be enough
- Keys are visible inside a locked vehicle
- A mechanical key or lock is not operating normally
- An automotive locksmith can verify and support the vehicle
When a tow is the safer option
- The ignition or steering lock is damaged
- A replacement key cannot be programmed at the location
- The vehicle must be secured after theft or collision damage
What to tell the provider
Clear information helps a dispatcher send the right vehicle and equipment. Provide:
- Vehicle year, make and model
- Where the keys are and whether a spare exists
- Whether the key, lock or window is damaged
- That you can provide identification and proof of access rights
Check coverage before service begins
Roadside plans and providers impose different mileage, labor, vehicle and parts limits. Ask what is included, the destination, total estimated charge and accepted payment method before authorizing work.
