When roadside help may be enough
- The engine will not crank and the lights appear weak
- A known 12-volt battery has discharged
- The vehicle is parked somewhere safe with access to the battery
When a tow is the safer option
- The vehicle still will not start after a safe jump attempt
- There is smoke, heat, swelling, leaking or a strong chemical smell
- The suspected fault involves an EV high-voltage traction battery
What to tell the provider
Clear information helps a dispatcher send the right vehicle and equipment. Provide:
- Vehicle year, make, model and fuel type
- What happens when you press the start button or turn the key
- Whether lights and dashboard electronics work
- Whether the battery is easy to access
Check coverage before service begins
Roadside plans and providers impose different mileage, labor, vehicle and parts limits. Ask what is included, the destination, total estimated charge and accepted payment method before authorizing work.
