When roadside help may be enough
- A safe, level working area is available
- The vehicle has an inflated spare and the correct wheel hardware
- There is no visible wheel, suspension or collision damage
When a tow is the safer option
- The vehicle is beside fast-moving traffic with no safe work area
- There is no usable spare or mobile replacement is unavailable
- The wheel, hub, suspension or more than one tire is damaged
What to tell the provider
Clear information helps a dispatcher send the right vehicle and equipment. Provide:
- Tire position and approximate size
- Whether the vehicle has a spare and wheel-lock key
- Vehicle year, make and model
- Whether the tire failed after an impact or collision
Check coverage before service begins
Roadside plans and providers impose different mileage, labor, vehicle and parts limits. Ask what is included, the destination, total estimated charge and accepted payment method before authorizing work.
